The English house… That’s what it was called even though Josephine Rive, the last of the Rive family to live there, was an Albert married to Harry Rive, this Jersey descendant son of Philippe Rive.

Originally located at 36 St-Pierre Boulevard East, this house is striking for its simplicity and neoclassical architecture. Built around 1860 for one of Robert Young’s sons, it was inhabited in the early 20th century by the merchant Colson Hubbard. Later, the Rives took possession and embellished it with a magnificent English garden and a veranda. Condemned to demolition about ten years ago, the house was acquired by the Bouffard couple, who moved it to Marais Street and undertook a beautiful restoration. Thank you, thank you to the owners!
