This magnificent snow monument by Jean-Pascal Brideau in front of the ruins of the Convent is a tribute to the important legacy left to us by the presence of the Convent in Caraquet.

The convent, initially intended for the education of young girls, opened its doors in 1874 under the direction of the nuns of the Congregation of Notre-Dame.

In 1904, based on plans by the architect Nazaire Dugas, a first three-story extension was added to the west side, constructed of cut stone with a mansard roof. Then, around 1947, a second two-story wooden section was added to the east side.

It closed its doors to school teaching in the 1970s and its premises subsequently housed cultural and community organizations.

A fire destroyed the building in 1992. Since 2006, its ruins have been adorned with paintings by artists and are now a magnificent backdrop to a public square in the town centre of the municipality, namely the Place du Vieux Couvent.
