The members of the MADA – Caraquet steering committee will have a common goal: the implementation of an action plan that will stem from the MADA approach to ensure the implementation of measures, programs and services to make the community better adapted to the needs and interests of seniors.

Committee mandate

Municipalities are directly affected by the aging population and they must find ways to adapt to this trend, either through policy design and the development of an adequate supply of services and infrastructure.

The concept

The town of Caraquet participates in the Age-Friendly Municipality program offered by the Francophone Seniors Association of New Brunswick. This is a strategy aimed at enabling people aged 50 and over to live in a safe and healthy environment where they can fully contribute to society.

Objective

Take sustainable measures in the following areas:

  • Social participation
  • Respect and inclusion
  • Citizen participation and employment
  • Communication and information
  • Community support and health services
  • Outdoor spaces and buildings

Steps in the process

  • The commitment
    The municipality officially committed in February 2019 by adopting a resolution aimed at implementing the age-friendly initiative.
  • Establishment of a committee
    A committee has been established with the mandate to coordinate activities leading to the definition of priorities for an action plan.
  • Conducting a community assessment
    establishing a profile of citizens, determining strengths and achievements, challenges and opportunities based on the priorities of seniors
  • Developing an action plan
    Identify objectives and concrete actions to prioritize in the short, medium, and long term, and target the partners involved in carrying out the actions
  • Implementation and monitoring
    Take appropriate measures to address the needs expressed according to a schedule predetermined by a monitoring committee
